Where is the Greenpeace Organizing Term located? The Greenpeace Organizing Term is held at the Greenpeace
US headquarters in
Washington, DC, and at our expanded offices in San Francisco.
How is the Greenpeace Organizing Term different from an internship?
The Greenpeace Organizing Term is an intensive training program with
over 50 cutting-edge trainings throughout the semester, facilitated by
some of the nation's top environmental leaders. Rather than filing
papers or doing eight hours of research, participants spend their days
in trainings with experienced organizers, in-the-field organizing
events on a priority Greenpeace campaign or at lunch with John
Passacantando, executive director of Greenpeace USA. Students
work one-on-one with Greenpeace staff who provide weekly feedback,
mentoring and personalized trainings on organizing and campaigning
skills. Students also travel abroad to meet with and learn from global
Greenpeace staff.
Students emerge from the program with a deep knowledge and broad skills
to run campaigns, great connections to environmental leaders and the
skills and knowledge to be an effective leader within the environmental
movement.
Do I need experience in activism to participate?
Prior experience in activism is helpful but not required.
How much do we travel during the Greenpeace Organizing Term?
The program includes a week and a half-long trip abroad to visit an
international Greenpeace office. Previous trips have been to
Germany, London and Amsterdam.
Typically students will also travel for two weeks for a campaign-related on-the-ground organizing experience.
When are tuition payments due?
To reserve your spot, a deposit a $500 is due within a month of being
accepted to the program. Complete tuition is due by the start of
the program.
Are scholarships available?
Limited scholarship funds are available on a needs-basis. Students who
show significant efforts to raise funds for the program will be favored
in the application process.
Can I fundraise for the program?
We strongly encourage participants to fundraise to help cover the costs
of the program. Greenpeace provides participants with the
"Greenpeace Fundraising Toolkit," sample materials, support and
fundraising trainings. In the past students successfully
fundraised the full-price of the tuition by sending letters to friends
and family, hosting parties and organizing fundraising
events.
Can I earn school credit for the program?
Students often receive internship and independent study credit for
participation in the program. Students who are accepted into the
program need to meet with their academic advisors or professors about
the possibility.
How do
I find housing during the term?
Once accepted, you will be put in touch with
students who will be attending the program with you. In the past,
students have chosen to find apartments or houses together in the city
and there are some accommodations that have been handed down semester
to semester, Greenpeace will also provide a housing guide for both D.C.
and San Francisco.
