Project Thin Ice Expedition explorer Lonnie Dupre snow shoes on the 'leeward' side of a pressure ridge about 40 miles from the North Pole, 89 degrees / 20 minutes North Latitude around 33 degrees fahrenheit. The pool of water that Dupre passes is not a normal melting pool, the water is fresh water on a flat pan.
